THE EXHIBITION

February 08th 2018 // Politecnico di Milano

From the previous phases, we selected some main important points to develop during this last part. Thanks to research we understood that Net Neutrality is something that concerns everybody but people even known about it. Because of that, for this last part we tried to make the topic accessible to more users as possible to make them aware. The goal of the exhibition is, first, explain what Net Neutrality is, in a engaging way. Second, we tried to use the data we collected before, to make people aware of Net Neutrality violation effects. And third, as consequences, we wanted that the users can be involved in the debate. There are a lot of active people that fight for Net Neutrality. It means that the topic is something really pressing and important. In the amount of people that are not familiar with the topic, there could be a lot of activists ready to fight and maybe they might make a difference.

We called the exhibition On the Net Neutrality way. We transformed the Net Neutrality explanation in a physical experience. We drowned each Net Neutrality violation consequences with a path that people can cover, walking on it. Each line has a different meaning. The meaning is expressed by the color and the kind of trace. There is a blocked line, a throttling line and a priority line. Also, there is a Net Neutrality line that show how Internet appears with and without Neutrality. People have to cover the lines in a different way, in according to the instructions given at the beginning of the paths. Following the lines, they arrive to panels that give them information about the Internet connection they have travelled. On the panels, there is a box for each line. Users are invited to watch inside the boxes where they can find a poster that show how their Internet page could appear with the connection they have taken.
