The common behaviour of going to movies and series locations to take photos has a specific name: setjetting in English and seichi junrei in Japanese. Since Instagram is the best platform for pictures, the visualization is based on the posts tagged with the hashtags #setjetting or #seichijunrei. It’s interesting the correlation between the photos’ different styles and the movie/series they refer to.
Main Findings
People behave in various ways when they take pictures on location that appeared in movies or series. However, all these behaviours can be divided into three main types: recreating the scene, posting just the photo of the location and personally posing in the location.
Analyzing the outcomes of the hashtag #setjetting, the most common behaviours that emerge are recreating the scene with a postcard of a frame of the movie/series and both posing or just taking the photo but with the technique of collage (by juxtaposing the photo with the frame).
While for the Japanese hashtag #seichijunrei (that includes pictures from anime series and movies) you find another method for recreating the scene, that implies the use of a particular object. As regards the pictures of locations, they are usually posted without the collage.
Each movie/series is often linked with a specific behavior. An example is the TV series Haven, along with Stranger Things, for which a lot of fans are taking pictures with postcards. While at the locations of the movie Weathering with You, people just take pictures of the landscapes.
