Search engine algorithms have a great influence on the way information is presented to the user. What do the top search results, presented by major search engines, communicate about the topic Deepfake? The visual content of twenty articles was analysed for each one of the eight countries with different political, religious, and private standards.
Main Findings
Leaving aside the category Others, the most images used in articles was of Celebrities, followed by images of Techniques, and Politicians.
Celebrities appear the most in Russia and Saudi Arabia whereas in the analysed articles from China they donāt appear at all.
Images related to Porn are not used in the results from the United States, Russia and Germany, whilst in the rest of the countries they are, although by small numbers.
China has by far the most images referring to Techniques (tutorials, how it works, education, and applications) covering more than three quarters of their total, this confirms the finding of the first protocol. In contrast, the results from China show almost no images from Politicians.
