The content moderator is a group of people who are on the front lines of the never-ending battle to keep the Internet safe. How is their life? What are they facing?
“I, Web Cleaner.” is a multimedia work. Try to guide the audience to walk into the content moderator’s world from the first-person perspective and experience the different situations content moderators face in each stage of the job.
The work mainly contains two opposite sides: “Company” and “Content moderator.” Through the data collected from interviews/ video/ reports/ company information, “I, Web Cleaner.” create and assemble images, video, narrative and factual text to generate a carefully constructed soundscape that combines monologue, music, noises, and other audio elements to create a more three-dimensional content moderator’s user portrait.
Our group invited Ms. Wang, who once worked as a content moderator in the company, to conduct an exclusive interview. Please refer to the link for the interview content.
Wu worked TikTok for one and a half years. She spent four months directly moderating the videos, and the rest of the time training new employees. She has a deep understanding of the whole TikTok moderation system.
