Description

The above visualisation summarise the most used terms relating the debate on marijuana legalization. All the States are clustered on four main groups depending on the legal status of marijuana: legal, medical use only, decriminalized, illegal. In each State the most used words for that specific State are shown as dots ordered by their frequency value. The gradient indicates the frequency value counted on all the member states of the words more frequent than two times. The blue dots represent those significant words, appearing less than two times.

It is interesting that many of the themes found through this visualization are the same one found on the Seealsology netword in question 1. These are themes that concern the most tipical aspects of the debate around marijuana legalization such as medical marijuana, issues related to the legal trade of marijuana and the so called war on drug. On the other hand other important issues found in the Seealsology network appear less often or not at all in this analysis.

Protocol

We took our corpus of 500 websites and retrieved for each of them the most used terms with the Keyword Density Analyzer Tool by SEO. We excluded a list of words that were not useful in order to gain an insight of the topics that were debated the most, such as: “legalization”, “marijuana”, “United States”, the state or cities name, time indicators and other typical stop words. In Excel we used a pivot to count what were the most used words in each member state and across all the country.
