In order to define the type of information that a person can find when he gets in touch with the phenomenon of fake images and wants to go deeper in the knowledge of it, it is necessary to examine the ecosystem in which they spread. The aim of this micro and macro scaled analysis is to understand what issues are actually associated to the query and if the approach in the digital world is critical or purely informative.
Main Findings
In both research domains the majority indexed results concern to Off Topic sites, where the term fake images is related to themes that are not part of the phenomenon. From the most general to the deepest level of research, the user indiscriminately encounters these unrelated results.
It is interesting to see how the national research domain influences the results obtained. Most of the results unrelated to the subject belong to the Italian domain, in stark contrast to what emerged in the global domain, more interested in spreading accurate information.
Although Off Topic results occupy the first place in terms of quantity, Debate and Awareness ones are most concentrated in the first pages of each domain. The user can then get a general and critical overview on the topic even at a shallow level of research.
As far as the other topics are concerned, they appear more from the sixth page onwards. This means that to obtain more specific information about different declinations of the theme, it is necessary to carry out a more in-depth research.
The theme of fake images does not seem to be particularly associated with politics, which counts - in the totality of the results analysed - only two cases, overcomed also by the theme of gossip. It is interesting to notice that they are exclusively related to the Italian domain, too.
