Alien sighting is a phenomenon that even before the Internet had been the genesis of a conspicuous production of fake images. Regardless of the quality and despite many denials by official sources, even today they are used on different platforms to declare different points of view on UFO existence. The power of fake images persists over time even when faced the obvious falsity of the happening.
Main Findings
Although all the images have been officially debunked, the sites that share them with uncertainty prevail, followed by those that use them as proof of the existence of the UFO and finally by those that deny it.
In general, the sites where images are most shared are Social Networks, among which does not stand out any specific purpose of sharing. Pinterest is an exception: in addition of being at the first place for number of shares, it is the only Social Network that has a prevalence of shared images that support the existence of UFOs.
Historically, the photo belonging to Roswell accident is the one that most of all has built collective imagination of the macrocephalus alien figure. Also, it is the most shared one on multiple platforms to support UFOs existence.
The image with the greatest number of sharing is the one representing the sighting in Los Angeles. What emerges from the analysis is that this image, despite being declared false as the others, is the one that has been used by most sites to fuel uncertainty about the existence of UFOs.
