Introduction

This initial search allows to collect data concerning the dispute:
positions, times and places on the web.

First, it allows to understand how the opinions may differ when we use the words
file sharing or piracy.

And who speaks most about this.

How to read the visualization

The first visualization is composed by an x-axis which lists the dates of reference of our dataset (2002-2014); in y-axis the bars are all lead to 100% and divided on percentage, based on the positions taken in those years.

The second visualization is composed by an x-axis which lists the dates of reference of our dataset (2002-2014) and the major events that affect our topic; in y-axis shows the number of articles per year. For each year is indicated the posts published in that year and they are divided into the sides of the dispute: File sharing enemies, File sharing neutrals, File sharing friends.

How it has been done

After producing preliminary graphs on Excel, it was decided to utilize the tool Illustrator.
The infographic's aim was to show the amount of topics for each year, associated with the most significant events of the dispute.

Findings

From this view, it is clear that there has been an exponential growth from year to year on the subject of the discussion. It is noted especially the spike in the number of topics published during the year 2012, the year after the treaty ACTA and SOPA bill.

The topics of discussion are proportional to the number of events and laws that affect the world of file sharing over the years. Countermeasures and high-profile cases of clousure (megavideo) generate pubblic discussion and stances. File sharing generates controversy only when big players (majors) decide to move against it.

From the dataset, It seems the comparison between words file sharing and piracy there isn’t any difference: the terms are not associated with a more positive or negative view.
