In this chapter, we would like to study the embodiment of “climate change” in text culture (books, literature) in China and United States, and the different tendencies and attitudes of these two countries to these texts(books). Books are one of the most popular mass media, and reading books is one of the main ways that people get information, so we want to compare the focus and emotional tendencies of Chinese and the American on climate change issue with the analysis of the books. In the first and second sections of this chapter, we studied 100 of the most popular books( 50 for China and 50 for United States) on climate change in these two countries.
In this section, we mainly study the related information of these 100 books: the reader rating, original language, nationality of the author, occupation of the author and the classification of the books. This informations is used to compare the information sources and concerns of Chinese and the American on climate change issues.
We separate Chinese and American books to compare the differences of these books from different perspectives. For example, in the 50 books in China, only half of them were written in Chinese, the remaining 25 books were written in English, French and German, while the 50 most popular books in the United States are all written in English. And we can see in the classification part, most of the books of China are atmospheric science, environmental science and economic theory, while the top three classifications of the 50 American books are environmental policy, politics and government.
Through this chart we recognize that in the area of climate change, Chinese and American concerns are different: Chinese people are more concerned about the scientific explanation of climate change itself, Americans are more concerned about climate change under the theme of political and policy factors.And the interesting things is 50 Chinese books and 50 American books are completely different, there is not a common book.
