Geolocalizing vandals

Introduction

This visualization aims to show the existence of a pattern in the distribution of vandals of our two main pages in the world.

How to read the visualization

The size of each circle is proportional to the number of vandals in that country (green referring to Tor (anonimity network) page, and purple referring to Deep Web page).

How it has been done

After having scraped the last five years of our two main pages we found out which of them had done the major damages to the pages deleting a large amount of bytes. Most of them were not logged in Wikipedia so they are shown as IP, making us able to find out their longitude and latitude by GeoIP and IPv6Locator in order to create a visualization of their position using Cartodb.

Findings

It looks like there is no pattern in the distribution of those vandals and above all it is not related to the Tor project activity of a country (see "The Onion Core"). We can say so because the stronger activity of the onion browser is in the USA, Germany and France (exit nodes, code writers...), but the distribution of the vandals does not mirror this pattern.
